Do you have a romantic plan?

If you are thinking of a romantic trip to Thailand, it is fortunately because you are living a sweet moment that must be celebrated, and it has to be memorable.

A thousand couples are a thousand budgets, so we leave aside the hotels, which should be splendid if possible.
It may be a good idea to invest most of the accommodation budget on the beaches, which is where you will make the most of them, as well as for the last day in Bangkok.
A single night in a super-luxury hotel can be affordable and this way the trip ends with a spectacular closure. It will be less sad that the end is near.

If you had already planned it or if it is still possible to make your trip in April or November, you have a magnificent opportunity to participate in two unique celebrations: Songkran and Loi Krathong.

» Songkran, April 13, 14 and 15.

When Thai people celebrate the New Year, and the main reason to come here is that fun is guaranteed.
Water war in the streets to have a great time. Participating as a couple will allow you to have your back protected and counterattack with verve.

» Loi Krathong on the full moon of November.

It is the end of the rainy season and has a really romantic backdrop in the launch of lanterns and little boats.

A very special touch

» Thai style wedding… Why not?

Many couples marry civilly almost privately.
Why not prepare a celebration like those held here in Thailand or with the ritual of any of the northern tribes?

It can be done with a few close friends, with a local family that, without any doubt, will be happy to host, or with other couples who want to celebrate the moment in the same way.
It can be beautiful, fun, genuine and unique.

» Offerings in Buddhist monasteries.

Apparently, it looks a bit paradoxical.
At a time when the ‘forever’ and ‘until death does us part’ become explicit, Buddhism emphasizes precisely that everything is ephemeral and that an excessive feeling of attachment ultimately brings suffering.

It might seem pessimistic or inconvenient, but well thought out it is quite the opposite.
Being aware that there are inevitable rules of the game, this way of facing life invites us to enjoy all the good that comes to us, always being grateful and without having the pretence that nothing changes and is eternal, as well as feeding feelings of possession and control that bring nothing good.

Offerings to Buddha, besides a show of respect, seek to place who makes them under his protection.
They are a frequent ritual in Thailand, an act of merit very suitable for sharing as a couple.

The gesture of some Buddha figures invites to stop the fights between relatives, it can be a good time to make an offering looking for inspiration.

You can see this mudra in the image, it is the gesture shown by the two Buddhas on both sides, with the right hand raised.
The Buddha of the centre has the position of ‘calming the oceans‘. As the name is intuitive, no further explanation is necessary.

Spas

Here they are not associated with water, but with personal care and beauty, health and relaxation treatments.

The massage houses are very frequent in any destination, the spas too, but they are much more luxurious and exclusive, with a very caring atmosphere.
The occasion is ideal to feel pampered in a select spa.

Suggestions in Bangkok

» Wat Arun at sunset.

This monastery is always one of the essential visits in Bangkok, but if you feel like giving it a romantic touch, approach at sunset, before 5 pm and stay for a while in the surroundings of the prangs, next to the Chao Phraya River.

If this is the first time, anticipate the arrival at 4 pm to go up to the central tower and visit the rest of the monastery. It is worth it.

» The lingam at Wat Pho

It is a statue of phallic aspect that belongs to the Hindu spiritual tradition, linked with the god Shiva. In Thailand, it is propitiated through offerings when you want to increase the family, that is, procreate.

The question is that one of them is located at the Wat Pho, which you will probably visit at your stage in Bangkok.
If you are interested, it is close to the four great stupas. If it is not the time, better not even look at it 🙄.

» Go out to dance in Bangkok night.

Bangkok is a city with a frantic activity at times, also after dark. So enjoying Bangkok night is almost a must and dancing is one of the funniest options.

Route 66, Bangkok.

The styles are varied, from avant-garde techno music to Thai pop in party halls with a more native atmosphere, passing through venues with an international atmosphere, such as Route 66.

Maybe you are shy if you go alone, or you would not know how to talk a Thai man or woman if you travel alone, but you are happily bond and it will be unforgettable.

If what you fancy is a gay nightclub, the Fake Club NextGen is a good option, with a fun and casual ambience.

Choose the beach at its best

The most spectacular beach on a cloudy day or with cloudy waters is not the same, which is why it is a good idea to adapt the beach destination to the dates of the trip so that the chances of good weather be higher.

In Thailand there are two coasts, the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea. Being brief and taking as reference two very suitable destinations, Krabi (Andaman Sea) and Koh Samui (Gulf of Thailand), our suggestion is as follows:

January. Krabi or Koh Samui, both options are good.
February. Krabi or Koh Samui.
March. Krabi or Koh Samui.
April. Krabi or Koh Samui.
May*. Krabi
June. Koh Samui
July. Koh Samui
August. Koh Samui
September. Koh Samui
October*.
November. Krabi See also Koh Chang in the Gulf of Thailand.
December. Krabi and Koh Samui.

* May and October
Officially the change of season for the beginning of the monsoon occurs in mid-May and five months later, in mid-October, a new dry season begins.
However, these are general patterns and monsoons can both be advanced or delayed.

In May, the expectation is not very different between Koh Samui and Krabi, although we prefer Krabi because, in our opinion, if there is luck, the beaches are impressive here.
In any case, advance the stage of the beaches if the trip is long and allows you to approach April (in general, it is better to start in Bangkok and finish on the beaches).

In the month of October there is no big difference to recommend one destination or another. As the monsoons are going to finish, it is convenient to leave the beach stage for the end, as close as possible to November.

And then, may luck be with you.

Northern Thailand: Chiang Mai, Pai and Mae Hong Son

Chiang Mai is a small city that has ‘something‘ that makes it lovely, a visit of a couple or three full days is highly recommended.

To the west of Chiang Mai, there are two small mountain towns that are worth considering.

Mae Hong Son.

Pai is very popular among young people and not so much Mae Hong Son. However, the latter has a lake next to one of the most beautiful Buddhist temples in Thailand and the atmosphere at dusk is pure romanticism.
